Maciej Urbanowicz: Now we’re only thinking about the world championships

Just after Easter Maciej Urbanowicz and seven other Comarch Cracovia players joined Poland national squad who are preparing for 2016 Mens World Ice Hockey Championships IA. Maciek talks about celebrating winning the Polish Hockey League final and national team training sessions.

- Are you still celebrating winning the league championship?

- We had to put an end to celebrations very quickly as three days after the last game of the final series me and a couple of guys from Comarch Cracovia joined Poland national squad. Of course, we had some time to party, but that was just one night. Now were only thinking about the world championships.

- During the national team training camp in Krynica you met with some of the GKS Tychy players. There must have been some teasing.

- There was some joshing going on between players of the two teams, but nothing serious. We know one another very well, some of us used to be teammates, some are still friends. We all know it was a close-fought final and we respect GKS Tychy so now were focusing on doing good in the championships.

- How are the preparations going?

- Today and tomorrow we train in Katowice and later we are off to Great Britain where we will play two games against the home team. We are training very hard all day long - in the gym, on stationary bikes and in the evening we head out to the ice rink. Its a lot, the coach is not going easy on us.

- He will have to give up a few players.

- There are five 5-man lines and everybodys doing their best to prove to the coach that the national team need them. We are ready to go to the mat knowing that its a privilege to play for the national team.
