Rudolf Roháček after a sparring game with AZ Hawierzów
- In the first period we left too much space for the opponents, thats why during the break I sensitized the players. In the second installment we were a better team and as a result we scored three goals. In the end we won and it was a very useful frendly game - said coach Comarch Cracovia.
Today Cracovia won (4-2) for the second time out of three sparring games against AZ Hawierzów. What do you think of this outcome, coach?
Rudolf Roháček: I think it was a very good game. We created a lot of opportunities to score in the first period. Although we also gave the opponents too much space and played mostly in our defending zone. During the break I instructed the guys what to change. After that we played more aggressively, improved our positioning, and we saw a result of it - three goals in the second period - which was decisive for the course of the game. In the last period we just controlled the play. Unfortunately, there were many minor penalties for us in the end. Here I need to give it to the guys who were sacrificing themselves in defence and managed to save a lot of threatening situations while we were playing shorthanded. Despite we could not prevent losing one more goal, Filip Drzewiecki set the final score by hitting empty net in last seconds. All in all, I am satisfied with the game and I want to thank Cracovias players.
Cracovia is going to play in Tatra Cup in one week. How will you prepare for this tournament now?
After a two-days break we are getting back to regular trainings on Monday. The plan is to focus more on tactics, specifically defence and attacking in power play. We are happy and optimistic about this tournament. We know that it is going to be hard because of other strong, demanding teams, but in fact this is what we are looking forward to.
Lately we have got to know that Cracovia is also going to participate in another tournament in Ukraine - Donbass Open Cup. Why have you decided to sign up for it?
There are going to be teams from Ukraine, Latvia, Belarus and Kazakhstan who have similar playing style to us. I believe that experience taken out from this event will be useful for the 2019-20 IIHF Continental Cup which is coming up soon. The Eastern way of playing should be visible there.
Even though today is a holiday and this was only a sparring game, there were quite a lot of people cheering for Cracovia.
I am very thankful for that. To be honest, there were more spectators than at some of our league matches, which is surprising. I would say we also positively surprised our fans by performing well, winning, and delivering a great entertainment.
